Area Code 2445 – Kaya

Geographic Overview

The +226 2445 numbering range is a geographic allocation within the Burkina Faso national numbering plan, specifically assigned to the Kaya exchange area. Kaya is the capital of the Centre-Nord Region and serves as a major administrative and commercial hub in the central part of the country. This prefix routes calls to fixed-line subscribers within the Kaya local service area, which includes the city itself and its immediate surrounding localities.

Dialing Formats

When calling a Kaya fixed-line number from within Burkina Faso, subscribers must dial the national significant number (NSN) in the format 24 45 XX XX (8 digits). The trunk prefix '0' is not used in Burkina Faso's domestic dialing; callers simply dial the 8-digit number directly. For international callers, the full E.164 format applies: +226 24 45 XX XX. The country code +226 replaces any domestic trunk prefix, and the leading '2' of the area code is retained as part of the NSN.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers (within Burkina Faso): Dial 24 45 XX XX. No area code or trunk prefix is required.
• International callers: Dial the international access prefix (e.g., 00 from most countries) followed by 226 (country code) and then 24 45 XX XX. Example: 00 226 24 45 XX XX.

Technical Considerations

This is a fixed-line (PSTN) allocation, primarily served by the incumbent operator, ONATEL (now Orange Burkina Faso). As with most geographic numbers in Burkina Faso, the 2445 prefix is not portable to mobile networks, meaning that numbers beginning with 2445 remain associated with the Kaya fixed-line exchange. Calls to these numbers are typically charged at standard fixed-line rates, which are lower than mobile rates. The numbering plan follows the ITU-T E.164 recommendation, ensuring global interoperability.
