Overview of Area Code 3779 (Siva Reka)

Area code +359 3779 is a geographic destination code within the Bulgarian national numbering plan, allocated to the region of Siva Reka and its surrounding localities. This code is part of the 3xxx series assigned to the north-central and northeastern parts of Bulgaria, specifically within the administrative province of Targovishte. The area is characterized by its rural landscape, small settlements, and agricultural activity, with Siva Reka serving as the primary local administrative hub for the villages and hamlets that fall under this exchange area.

Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +359 3779 prefix covers the town of Siva Reka and several nearby villages, all situated within the Targovishte Province. This geographic area is served by fixed-line PSTN infrastructure, with copper and fiber connections provided by local telecommunications operators. The numbering area is defined by the Bulgarian Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), which oversees the allocation of geographic codes under the ITU-T E.164 standard. As a geographic code, 3779 is tied to a physical location, meaning that calls to this number are routed based on the subscriber's registered address.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Bulgaria, the local dialing format is 0 3779 XXX XXX (where X represents the subscriber number). The leading '0' is the trunk prefix used for domestic calls. For international callers, the format is +359 3779 XXX XXX or 011 359 3779 XXX XXX (from North America). It is important to note that the subscriber number length can vary, typically ranging from 5 to 7 digits after the area code, depending on the specific allocation. When dialing from a mobile phone within Bulgaria, the same domestic format applies, but the leading '0' is often omitted when using the international format. For example, a local call to a number in Siva Reka would be dialed as 03779 12345 (if the subscriber number is 5 digits), while an international caller would dial +359 3779 12345.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

Currently, there is no overlay code for the 3779 area, meaning that the geographic area is exclusively served by this prefix. However, subscribers may have the option to retain their numbers when switching between fixed-line operators, a practice known as local number portability. This ensures that the geographic association remains intact even if the service provider changes. For businesses operating in Siva Reka, having a local geographic number can enhance trust and local presence, as callers recognize the familiar area code. It is also worth noting that while VoIP services can be assigned geographic numbers, the physical location of the caller may not match the area code, which is a consideration for emergency services and regulatory compliance.
