Area Code 3109 – Lilkovo

Overview of Area Code 3109 (Lilkovo)

Area code 3109 is a geographic destination code within the Bulgarian national numbering plan, conforming to ITU-T E.164 recommendations. It serves the Lilkovo area, which is administratively part of Plovdiv Province in south-central Bulgaria. The code is assigned to the Plovdiv regional telecommunication group, which covers both urban and rural localities. Specifically, 3109 is used for fixed-line PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) services in the village of Lilkovo and its immediate surroundings. Subscribers within this code are allocated numbers that are part of the national destination code (NDC) 31, which is reserved for the Plovdiv region.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

Lilkovo is a small village located in the municipality of Parvomay, which falls under Plovdiv Province. The area code 3109 is one of several local exchange codes within the larger Plovdiv numbering area. The primary cities and towns served by the broader 31 NDC include Plovdiv (the second-largest city in Bulgaria), Asenovgrad, and Karlovo. However, the specific 3109 prefix is dedicated to the Lilkovo exchange, which provides telecommunication services to residential and business customers in that locality. The administrative jurisdiction for number allocation is the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) of Bulgaria, which oversees the national numbering plan in accordance with EU regulatory frameworks.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Bulgaria, the local dialing format for a number in the 3109 area code is 03109 XXX XX, where the leading '0' is the trunk prefix used for domestic calls. The full national significant number (NSN) consists of 8 digits after the trunk prefix, making the total number length 9 digits including the leading zero. When calling from abroad, international callers must use the country calling code for Bulgaria, which is +359, followed by the area code without the leading zero, and then the subscriber number. Therefore, an international call to Lilkovo would be formatted as +359 3109 XXX XX. It is important to note that the area code 3109 is not an overlay; it is a unique geographic code for the Lilkovo exchange. Callers should always include the area code when dialing from a different geographic region within Bulgaria, even if the call is local, to ensure proper routing through the PSTN.

Practical Examples and Usage

To illustrate, if a subscriber in Lilkovo has the number 123 45, the domestic dialing format would be 03109 123 45. A caller from Sofia would dial the same number, while a caller from the United States would dial +359 3109 123 45. This area code is used exclusively for fixed-line services; mobile numbers in Bulgaria are assigned to non-geographic prefixes starting with 87, 88, 89, and 98, and are not tied to any geographic location. For businesses or residents in Lilkovo, having a fixed-line number with the 3109 code can be advantageous for local presence and cost-effective calling within the Plovdiv region. As with all geographic numbers, the cost of calls is determined by the caller's operator and tariff plan, with local calls typically being cheaper than long-distance calls within Bulgaria.
