Area Code 3424 – Moheshkhali

Overview of Area Code 3424

Area code 3424 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the sub-district of Moheshkhali, located in the Cox's Bazar District of Chittagong Division, Bangladesh. This code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) under the ITU-T E.164 standard. The region encompasses the island of Moheshkhali and adjacent coastal areas, known for their fishing communities and the Moheshkhali Export Processing Zone.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 3424 code covers the administrative upazila of Moheshkhali, which includes several unions such as Boro Moheshkhali, Choto Moheshkhali, and Kalarmarchhara. The primary town center is Moheshkhali, situated approximately 18 kilometers northwest of Cox's Bazar city. The area is connected to the mainland by road and water transport, with the nearest major urban center being Cox's Bazar (area code 341).

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Bangladesh, the national dialing format requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The complete national number is 0 3424 XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the 6-digit local subscriber number. Thus, a local call from Dhaka would be dialed as 0 3424 XXXXXX.

For international callers, the format is +880 3424 XXXXXX, where +880 is the country code for Bangladesh, and the leading trunk prefix '0' is omitted. For example, a caller from the United States would dial +880 3424 123456 (using the actual subscriber number).

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest BTRC updates, there is no overlay code for Moheshkhali; the 3424 code remains exclusive to this geographic area. Subscriber numbers are typically 6 digits long, resulting in a total national significant number length of 10 digits (including the leading '0' but excluding the country code). This aligns with the standard numbering plan for Bangladesh.

Practical Usage for Local and Foreign Callers

Local callers within Moheshkhali can often dial the 6-digit subscriber number directly without the area code, depending on the local exchange configuration. However, for clarity and to avoid misdialing, it is recommended to always use the full national format. Foreign callers must ensure they have international dialing access and should replace the '+' with their country's international access code (e.g., '011' from the US, '00' from most European countries).

Businesses and residents in Moheshkhali should display their numbers in international format (+880 3424 XXXXXX) on websites and global directories to facilitate seamless communication with overseas clients and partners.
