For local callers within Armenia, the trunk prefix 0 is used before the NDC, resulting in the national format 0 2647 XX XXX. For example, a local call to a Gavar number would be dialed as 0 2647 12 345. International callers must replace the trunk prefix with the Armenian country code +374, omitting the leading zero, and dial +374 2647 12 345. When calling from abroad, ensure you use the correct international exit code (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from the United States) before the country code.
Numbering Plan and Overlay Considerations
Armenia's numbering plan follows ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The NDC 2647 is part of the geographic numbering scheme, and numbers under this prefix are typically 8 digits long when including the NDC (excluding the trunk prefix). There are no overlay codes in this region, meaning the 2647 prefix is unique to the Gavar/Sarukhan area. However, as telecom services evolve, some fixed-line numbers may be migrated to VoIP, but the geographic association remains for routing purposes.
Practical Usage and Routing
These numbers are primarily used for residential and business landlines in the region. Calls to +374 2647 numbers are routed via the Armenian PSTN. For international callers, it is important to note time zone differences (Armenia Time, UTC+4) and potential peak-hour congestion. For businesses, having a local presence in Gavar can be established using this prefix, which may be beneficial for local customer trust. However, for international reach, consider alternative non-geographic numbers or VoIP services.
