Overview of Area Code 2448
Area code 2448 is a geographic destination code within the Armenian national numbering plan, assigned to the town of Artik and the adjacent community of Pemzashen, both located in the Shirak Province (Shirak Marz) of Armenia. This code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services in this region, which sits at the foothills of Mount Aragats, approximately 90 kilometers northwest of the capital, Yerevan.
Geographic Coverage and Administrative Context
The 2448 code covers the urban area of Artik, a town known for its tuff stone quarries, and the nearby village of Pemzashen. Both settlements fall under the jurisdiction of the Shirak regional administration. The code is part of the national numbering plan administered by the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia, following ITU-T E.164 recommendations.
Dialing Formats
To call a fixed-line number in Artik or Pemzashen, the following formats apply:
- Domestic (within Armenia): Dial
0 2448 XXX XX(the leading 0 is the trunk prefix). - International (from outside Armenia): Dial
+374 2448 XXX XX(the +374 is Armenia's country calling code).
For example, a local number might be written as 0 2448 3 45 67 domestically and +374 2448 3 45 67 internationally. When calling from a mobile phone within Armenia, the same domestic format is used, but the caller must include the trunk prefix 0.
Numbering and Overlay Considerations
Armenian fixed-line numbers typically consist of seven digits after the trunk prefix, with the area code (2448) followed by a subscriber number of varying length. As of the latest updates, there is no overlay code for Artik/Pemzashen; the 2448 code is exclusive to this geographic region. However, number portability may allow subscribers to retain their 2448 numbers even if they switch to a different operator, though the geographic association remains.
Caller Instructions
For callers within Armenia, always include the trunk prefix 0 before the area code when dialing from a different fixed-line zone or from a mobile network. For international callers, omit the trunk prefix and use Armenia's country code +374. Ensure you have the correct subscriber number, as fixed-line numbers in this region are not mobile and cannot be reached via SMS.
