Area Code 2446 – Artik, Shirak

Overview of Area Code 2446

Area code 2446 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the city of Artik and its surrounding areas within the Shirak Province of Armenia. This code is part of the Armenian public switched telephone network (PSTN) and is used for fixed-line (landline) services. The administrative center of the region is Gyumri, but Artik is a distinct urban community with its own numbering allocation.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The 2446 code covers the town of Artik and the adjacent rural communities that fall under the Artik municipal jurisdiction. Shirak Province is located in the northwestern part of Armenia, bordering Georgia and Turkey. Artik is known for its tuff stone quarries and is situated on the western slopes of Mount Aragats. The region is served by Armenian fixed-line operators, primarily ArmenTel (Beeline) and Ucom, which provide PSTN and VoIP services.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

When calling a landline in Artik from within Armenia, you must use the national trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The local subscriber number length is typically 5 or 6 digits, making the total national significant number (NSN) length 8 digits (including the leading 0).

• National dialing (within Armenia): 0 2446 X XX XX (or 0 2446 XX XXX, depending on the subscriber number length).
• International dialing (from outside Armenia): +374 2446 X XX XX (or +374 2446 XX XXX).

For example, if the local number is 2 34 56, you would dial 0 2446 23456 from within Armenia, and +374 2446 23456 from abroad. The leading +374 is the country calling code for Armenia.

Overlay and Numbering Plan Considerations

As of the current ITU-T E.164 national numbering plan, there is no overlay code for Artik. The 2446 code is exclusive to the Artik area. However, due to the increasing adoption of VoIP and mobile services, some numbers may be ported or used for non-geographic services, but the code remains geographically associated with Artik.

Caller Instructions

For local callers within Artik, short-dialing (without the area code) may be possible for calls within the same exchange, but it is recommended to always use the full national format to avoid misdialing. For international callers, you must replace the trunk prefix 0 with the international access code of your country (e.g., 00 from most European countries, 011 from the US/Canada) and then dial 374 (country code) followed by 2446 and the subscriber number.

Always verify the exact subscriber number length with the local provider, as it can vary. For any assistance, contact your telecom operator or consult the official Armenian numbering plan.
