Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The +374 2444 prefix is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the Artik and Panik areas within the Shirak Province of Armenia. Artik, a town known for its pink tufa stone industry, serves as the primary administrative and economic hub for the surrounding communities, including Panik. This prefix is allocated for fixed-line PSTN services, and its use is tied to the physical location of the subscriber's line.

Dialing Formats and Caller Instructions

For callers within Armenia, the local dialing format is 02444 XXX XX. This includes the trunk prefix '0', the NDC '2444', and the subscriber number (typically 5 to 6 digits). For international callers, the format is +374 2444 XXX XX (or 00374 2444 XXX XX from many countries). When dialing from a foreign country, you must replace the trunk prefix '0' with the Armenian country code '+374'. For example, to call a fixed line in Artik from the United States, you would dial: 011 374 2444 XXX XX. From the United Kingdom, you would dial: 00 374 2444 XXX XX.

Geographic Significance and Numbering Plan

Armenia's numbering plan follows ITU-T E.164 recommendations. Geographic codes are allocated based on administrative regions, and this prefix is part of the Shirak Province cluster. The town of Artik is located approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Yerevan, the capital. The prefix 2444 is distinct from the Yerevan city codes (e.g., 10, 11) and other regional codes, ensuring efficient routing within the national PSTN.

Overlay and Number Portability Considerations

As of the latest updates, there are no overlay codes for the Artik/Panik area; the 2444 prefix is the sole geographic code for this region. However, number portability is available in Armenia, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching between fixed-line operators, provided the service address remains within the same geographic area. This means that a number with the 2444 prefix may be served by any licensed fixed-line operator, but the geographic association remains unchanged.

For businesses or residents in Artik and Panik, using the correct dialing format is crucial to avoid call failures. International callers should always verify the current dialing procedures with their telecom provider, as some countries require different exit codes.
