Area Code 2311 – Echmiadzin/Musaler/Parakar/Zvartnots, Armavir

Overview of Area Code +374 2311

Area code 2311 is a geographic destination code within the Armenian national numbering plan, assigned to the Armavir Province (Armavir marz) of the Republic of Armenia. Specifically, it serves the town of Vagharshapat (historically known as Echmiadzin) and the surrounding communities of Musaler, Parakar, and the area adjacent to Zvartnots International Airport (EVN). This code is used for fixed-line (PSTN) services and is allocated to subscribers within this defined geographic region.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Context

The 2311 area code covers a strategically important corridor west of the capital, Yerevan. Vagharshapat is the fourth-largest city in Armenia and the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, home to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The code also encompasses the airport zone, making it relevant for businesses and logistics operations near Zvartnots. Administratively, these settlements fall under the Armavir Province, which borders Turkey to the west and is part of the Ararat plain.

Dialing Formats and Usage

To call a fixed-line number in this region, the complete international format is +374 2311 XXXXX, where +374 is Armenia's country calling code, 2311 is the national destination code (NDC), and XXXXX is the subscriber number (typically 5 digits). When dialing from within Armenia, callers must use the trunk prefix 0 before the area code, resulting in 0 2311 XXXXX. For example, a local number might be formatted as +374 2311 12345 internationally or 0 2311 12345 domestically.

Caller Instructions

• International callers should dial their international access code (e.g., 00 from most countries, 011 from North America), followed by 374, then 2311, and the 5-digit subscriber number.
• Domestic callers from other regions of Armenia should dial 0 (trunk prefix) then 2311 and the subscriber number.
• Local callers within the same area code may sometimes omit the area code, but it is recommended to always use the full national format to ensure connectivity, especially with mobile number portability.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

Armenia's numbering plan is administered by the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC). As of the current allocation, there is no overlay code for the 2311 area; the code is exclusive to this geographic region. However, subscribers may have ported their numbers to other operators, but the geographic identity remains tied to the original assignment. Fixed-line numbers in Armenia are typically 8 digits long, including the area code (e.g., 2311 + 5 digits = 8 digits).

Practical Examples

• To call the administrative office of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin (hypothetical number): +374 2311 54321 from abroad.
• To call a hotel near Zvartnots Airport from Yerevan: 0 2311 98765.

When dialing from a mobile phone in Armenia, it is common practice to use the national format with the leading 0, as mobile networks recognize the full number. Always verify the current number length and any changes with your service provider, as numbering plans can evolve.
