Coverage and Administration

The area code covers the urban area of Abovyan, including its administrative districts and nearby settlements within the Kotayk Province. It is a geographic code, meaning it is tied to a specific physical location and is used for fixed-line PSTN services. The code is administered by the national telecommunications regulator, and local operators allocate subscriber numbers within this range.

Caller Instructions

• Local callers within Armenia must dial the trunk prefix '0' followed by the area code and subscriber number: 022 26 X XXX.
• International callers should dial their country's exit code (e.g., 00 or +), followed by Armenia's country code 374, then the area code without the leading '0', and the subscriber number: +374 2226 X XXX.
• Mobile callers within Armenia can dial the same format as fixed-line callers, but should be aware that calls to geographic numbers may incur different tariffs depending on their mobile plan.

Overlay and Numbering Considerations

As of the latest regulatory updates, there is no overlay code for Abovyan; the 2226 code is the sole geographic code for the area. However, number portability is available in Armenia, allowing subscribers to retain their numbers when switching operators, but geographic portability is limited to the same area code. This ensures that the geographic association of the code remains intact.

Practical Usage

Businesses and residents in Abovyan use this code for fixed-line services, including PSTN and VoIP connections that are registered to a physical address. When calling from abroad, it is essential to replace the leading '0' with the international access code and country code. For example, a call from the United States to Abovyan would be dialed as 011 374 2226 X XXX.
