Area Code 264 – Postribë/Gur i Zi

Overview of Area Code 264 (Albania)

Area code 264 is a geographic National Destination Code (NDC) assigned to the region encompassing Postribë and Gur i Zi, located in the northern part of Albania near the city of Shkodër. This code is part of the Albanian telephone numbering plan, which follows ITU-T E.164 recommendations. The area is served by fixed-line PSTN networks, and the code is used for both local and international dialing.

Geographic Coverage and Administrative Jurisdiction

The code 264 covers the administrative units of Postribë and Gur i Zi, which are part of the Shkodër County (Qarku i Shkodrës). These areas are situated in the northern region of Albania, close to the border with Montenegro. The primary urban center in the vicinity is the city of Shkodër, which uses a different area code (22), but the rural and suburban zones of Postribë and Gur i Zi are served by 264. The region is characterized by a mix of residential communities and agricultural land, with a modest population density.

Dialing Formats and Instructions

For callers within Albania, dialing a number in the 264 area requires the trunk prefix 0 followed by the area code and the subscriber number. The national format is: 0 264 XXX XXX (where X represents the local subscriber digits). For example, a local call to a subscriber in Postribë would be dialed as 0264 123 456.

For international callers, the Albanian country code +355 must be used, and the leading trunk prefix 0 is omitted. The international format is: +355 264 XXX XXX. For instance, a caller from abroad would dial +355 264 123 456 to reach the same subscriber.

Overlay Considerations and Numbering Plan

As of the latest updates, there is no overlay code for the 264 area, meaning that the code is exclusively assigned to the Postribë/Gur i Zi region. The subscriber numbers within this code typically consist of six digits after the area code, resulting in a total number length of nine digits when including the country code (but excluding the trunk prefix). This structure is consistent with the Albanian national numbering plan.

Caller Instructions

Local callers (within Albania) must always include the trunk prefix 0 when dialing from a different area code. If calling from a landline within the same 264 area, it may be possible to dial only the subscriber number, but this depends on the specific local exchange settings. For safety, it is recommended to use the full national format.

Foreign callers should note that Albanian numbers are reachable via standard international dialing. Ensure you have the correct country code (+355) and drop the leading zero of the area code. No special restrictions apply to calling this geographic region.
